Today was officially the first day of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. Apparently, the opening ceremony starts at 5 am in morning. I therefore slept and woke up at 4:45, thanks to my mom. I'm glad that I didn't miss any part of the opening ceremony. However, the ceremony was anything but fascinating. It was 30 minutes long, but I found it rather boring, probably because South Africa wasn't a wealthy country. But the world cup was once in every 4 years, so I guess it's worth watching.
I ate breakfast before the first 2010 Fifa world cup game, between South Africa and Mexico. The game started at 7 am. It was an entertaining game, in my opinion. Mexico seemed to be the better team. However, the first half came to an end with no scoring. Mexico had a few chances to score, including one disallowed goal, because a Mexican player was offside.
In the second half, the South African team drew first blood, when one of their players snipped a shot towards the top right corner, past the Mexican goalkeeper. Mexico would answer back with a goal, when Marques had a clear shot and he made no mistake burying it to even the game. There would be no scoring after that and the game ended with a 1-1 score.
Later on, I dressed up and finished episode 14 of a Chinese Drama before I head to a friend's house, to watch France taking on Uruguay.
The game was rather entertaining, despite no scoring. How ironic! We laughed at the coach's reaction to every scoring chance denied from both sides, mainly because we found it hilarious. We also witnessed the first red card handed out to an Uruguay player. The game was more intense at the final minute, France gave everything they could to go for the win, but couldn't capitalize on it. So the game ended in a 0-0 tie. How interesting, the entire group A are all tied.
After the game, we played a little bit of Playstation 3. We played Fifa 10 demo, a game that I owned everybody in. We also played Virtua Fighter 5 and Soul Calibar. By 3, we left to eat McDonalds. I had to carry my friend's stick, because he left to tutor someone. After lunch, I head to a friend's house before hockey. By 5:50, another friend arrived in a car, and gave us a ride there.
Hockey was fun, even when a couple of little kids joined us. They actually contributed in scoring, which made it more fun. My team prevailed by a score of 25-16.
Now, tomorrow is the big day! England taking on the United States!! England all the way!!
