Alright, so my beloved Vancouver Canucks just finished their series against the hated Chicago Blackhawks in exciting fashion. The series took 7 games for the winner to be decided. This was also considered to be one of the most highly anticipated series to watch.
Vancouver started off the series very hot. Winning game 1 by a score of 2-0. Game 2 was a back and fourth game. With Vancouver scoring 2 goals before Chicago breaking through Luongo's shutout streak by Ben Smith's goal. Vancouver and Chicago will eventually trade two more goals but Vancouver end up on top, winning 4-3. With the series shifting back to Chicago with Vancouver up 2-0 series, Chicago scores the first goal, for the first time in this series. During the second period, Vancouver would eventually score two more goals to take a quick 2-1 lead. However, when Raffi Torres completely obliterated Brent Seabrook, all the controversy began whether he should get a suspension or not. The league decided not to suspend him. Vancouver will end up winning 3-2 and hold a commanding 3-0 series lead.
Just as you think the Blackhawks are totally out, they are not. Game 4 was a complete lopsided score with the Blackhawks winning 7-2. So when the series shift back to Vancouver for a fifth game, exact same result occurred. With Vancouver not showing up to play, the Blackhawks easily won 5-0. So a vicious game 6 back to Chicago will happen. This time Vancouver played very well, however they blew a lead 3-0 times and also the terrible officiating which favored the Hawks! Unfortunately, Vancouver will lose in overtime which resulted in a series tied 3-3. So after the game, Vancouver were on the verge of experiencing a major team collapse in franchise history.
So it all came down to one game, where winner takes all! I had friends over for this game, as well as game 2 earlier in the series. The Canucks were extremely physical which was great! Ryan Kesler sets up Alex Burrows for a 1-0 lead. This game, the refs were letting things go, which was alright because it's fair to both teams. Vancouver held on to that 1-0 lead until 1:59 left in the 3rd period, in which Blackhawk captain Johnathan Toews scores a shorthanded goal to tie the game. At that moment, it seems as if the world has just ended. Anyways, what was more interesting is that Alex Burrows took a penalty 22 seconds into overtime, which gave the blackhawks a chance to win the game and complete the series comeback. At that moment, I was utterly shitting on my pants! Not only did Burrows not score on that penalty shot, he turned the puck over which resulted in Toews' tying goal and now he took a penalty to screw his team over?? Totally unacceptable! But wait.....
After the penalty kill, the Canucks were playing 5 on 5 hockey again. When Chris Campoli's clearance was gloved by Burrows he took the puck to the middle of the Blackhawk zone and rifled the series winning goal against the Hawks! My house erupted as I gave high fives and hugged friends!! What a game! What a night! What a series!! Vancouver finally has exercised their demons!!!
Next series will begin tomorrow and against the Nashville Predators!! During the regulation, the Predators always scored the first goal and those games were always low scoring! Vancouver better not take them easy! They will need to play the same way they have been playing for the past two games!!
